Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a typical remodel cost?
Your remodeling project will most likely cost more and take longer than you think. Final costs are always determined by the size and complexity of the renovation and the cost of the selected finishes. To estimate any project, we use a Fixed Cost system. We take into account all the costs of a project—labor, materials, and other business expenses—and we stick to them. If we plan for five days and it ends up taking seven, then you’ll never see a bill for the additional two days. The only time the cost will change is if you ask for a change in scope or if we come across unforeseen issues (like a dramatic change in the price of materials). This is what it means to be a good steward.
While we give you a price for labor and materials, you are free to find and purchase your selections from anywhere. If you use a vendor that we know, we might even be able to get you a discount!
Our planning and design process takes your project from a vague dream and a guess to detailed drawings, real costs, and an executable plan.
How long does an initial consultation take?
Your first step in a renovation is nothing more than a short phone call. We would love to hear the vision and story of your space and answer any questions. Then we can discuss the typical timeline and costs of recent projects like yours.
If you choose to move forward, the next step is meeting at your home to discuss a more specific timeline and costs related to your project. This is where we begin to “Plan the work and work the plan”. We’ll discuss everything from the project deposit to a detailed timeline—from conception to completion. This in-home consultation typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. By the end of that meeting, you’ll know the cost of your project and what you need to do next to get it done.
Do you all work all across Louisville?
We want to give all our clients the same high level of attention, and we simply cannot provide that if we spend too much time driving.
Because of this, we focus on an area within a 10-mile radius of our office in Lyndon. This allows our project managers to manage their projects efficiently and effectively with a high level of client care and project quality.
How long do projects take?
In short, it depends. It all depends on the size and scope of the work. Some projects can be as short as four weeks (for example, a small bathroom remodel). Others can take close to six months (for example, a large addition or a whole-house remodel). Our planning process includes a full project schedule that we share with you so that you can track our work along the way.
What does the day-to-day look like once the project starts?
Now that we planned the work, it’s time to work the plan! Believe it or not, the first day of work on your project is not demo day! It’s dust protection day. Remodeling is a messy process and we want to minimize the disruption.
Throughout the project, we will communicate with you and care for your home as if it were ours. Each day, your project manager will send you a daily log that communicates what’s been done and what will be done the rest of the week. In order for your project manager to keep the plan on-track, they will know your project inside and out; they’ll be on- site daily to oversee and organize all the people, materials, and details of your project.

Trade Works Remodeling
Trade Works Remodeling was started out of the conviction that remodeling your home should not be done with vague plans, reactive management, or sparse, fragmented communication. In the end, the client should be able to walk into the renovated space without regret or disappointment.
I’m convinced that our clients deserve a contractor with the same high level of professionalism that they have themselves. This should be the standard in our industry; sadly, it’s not. That’s why I started Trade Works Remodeling—to develop and master a repeatable process of planning and executing a remodel, while also providing considerate and relational client care. After all, we are guests in your home, and we’d be honored to be invited back.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
